Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?

A: I’ve always been passionate about helping others, and for many years, I did so as a marriage and family therapist. I found the work deeply meaningful, but it was also emotionally draining. I realized I needed a way to channel my passion for helping others into something that felt more fulfilling.

Writing has always been a strength of mine, so I saw an opportunity to support therapists and other helping professionals by creating marketing copy that connects them with the people who need their services most.

This work allows me to make a meaningful impact behind the scenes, ensuring clients find the support they need, while empowering other helping professionals to focus on the life-changing work they do best.

Q: How did you get your start?

A: I discovered copywriting through an ad on Facebook for a program offered by the American Writers and Artists Institute, the largest copywriting training organization in the country. Since then, I’ve completed multiple trainings on copywriting, copyediting and other marketing topics, earning certifications as an email marketing specialist, copyediting specialist and client retention specialist.

I’ve also taken several trainings (from AWAI and others) on generative AI, which has been instrumental in keeping my skills cutting-edge.

Q: What does your business sell or provide?

A: My business specializes in creating website copy, email marketing campaigns, newsletters and blog posts. I also offer a discounted content marketing package (blogs, social media and newsletters) tailored for solopreneurs and freelancers because I know firsthand how challenging running a small business can be.

Recently, I expanded my offerings to include AI copyediting, where I refine AI-assisted content to make it feel more human and effective. I’m also developing initiatives to teach people how to use generative AI to create and edit their own copy.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?

A: The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is connecting with the right audience to grow my business. Although I’ve been a successful freelancer for 10 years, this year has been particularly challenging for finding new clients, especially those seeking long-term retainer arrangements. I love building lasting relationships with clients because it allows me to truly understand their businesses and market them more effectively.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?

A: I love all of the independent coffee houses in Cumberland County. Each one has its own character and quirky style. I work from home, so every time I schedule a meeting with a local client, I try to find a different coffee house to meet at. Three of my favorites are Cornerstone Coffeehouse, Good Grounds and Consciousness Coffee.
