Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?
A: I have been a practicing physician for 20-plus years and recently was the medical director in a hospital system. I opened my own practice so I could help patients with the medical condition of obesity in the best way I know I can: by giving unparalleled support and a holistic approach to set them up for long-term success.
Q: How did you get your start?
A: My professional life has been a pursuit of knowledge for my personal struggles. I am a person with obesity. Recently, I have recognized my own journey of perimenopause, which is what prompted me to also focus on hormone health in this midlife transition.
Q: What does your business sell or provide?
A: For patients struggling with the medical condition of obesity, I help my patients lose weight for the last time using the 4 Pillar Foundation Plan. I teach nutrition to learn how to eat sustainably, physical activity to empower health, a multicomponent behavior change strategy with sleep, stress and mindset, as well as prescribing medication, which is a tool to treat the biology of weight.
For women going through perimenopause and menopause, I offer a no-gaslighting environment and provide evidence-based, science-backed information on why we “just don’t feel like myself anymore” and offer FDA-approved bio-identical hormone therapy.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?
A: The medical system is broken. Medical care is not what it used to be. Ten-minute appointments every six months cannot help a person change. However, people are used to this system. Convincing people to invest in their own health outside of the insurance system is not easy. As a direct care medical practice, I do not collect payment from an insurance company for my patient’s care. In order to provide this truly personalized, thorough and exceptional care, my patients pay me directly, just like you would pay for any excellent service.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?
A: I live and work in Cumberland County and love it here. My favorite places to go to are the fresh fruits and produce stands. Strawberry picking is a top favorite.
