Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?

A: I started working with Mountaintop Counseling, out of Luzerne County, as a virtual counselor just over two years ago. From about month six, Michelle Zapatoski, the practice owner, and myself saw the vision for a physical satellite location in Carlisle so that we were better able to serve the needs of the Carlisle community. I personally wanted to be able to reach different people, whom I wouldn’t be able to reach as a virtual-only counselor.

Q: How did you get your start?

A: I graduated in 2005 with a degree in psychology and no idea what I wanted to do with my life! Since then I’ve worked in both the school and mental health settings in a variety of different job roles, aiming to figure that out! I have always had a heart for helping others, and as I’ve come back into the “outpatient counselor” role, I bring with me not only years of professional experience in the field, but years of my own focus on holistic healing that I now bring into the work that I do with clients.

Q: What does your business sell or provide?

A: We have a passionate team of counselors in our Carlisle office. We provide virtual and in-person counseling services for children through adults, ages 6+. Two of our counselors also provide couples and family counseling services. Our goal is to provide an individualized counseling approach for each client whom we have the pleasure and opportunity to work with.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?

A: Growth! It’s a great challenge to have, though. We recognize the need for counseling services in Carlisle, and across the state, and we are working to continue to be accessible for those who are navigating finding a counselor. We currently have availability, as we just hired a new counselor, and we are looking forward to continuing to grow to meet the needs of the community.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?

A: I really do love all that Carlisle has to offer. For me, my favorite thing to do is definitely a tie between eating at all of the amazing local restaurants that we have, and enjoying all of the beautiful outdoor activities; hiking and biking trails, lakes, etc., in our area.
