Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?
A: I have been a designer for almost 20 years, and being independent offers not only more freedom, but also unique opportunities. I have a very curious mind, and one of the things I love about graphic design is that each business, person, team and project offers an opportunity to learn something new. Working on a wide range of projects means I get to learn different things, like how a nonprofit works or what a pediatrician’s office communication needs are, etc. It’s always interesting.
Q: How did you get your start?
A: I started freelancing full-time in 2012, when I became a “digital nomad,” traveling around the world while working remotely before remote work was a thing. In 2014 my partner and I settled down in the U.S., where I continued as an independent designer.
Q: What does your business sell or provide?
A: I offer branding services and user interface design services. I help businesses create a brand system that is true to their essence and translate that brand to the digital world in an efficient way. I enjoy helping up-and-coming businesses and organizations connect with their ideal audience and attract new opportunities in a sustainable and meaningful way. Besides being a designer, I am also a certified yoga teacher, so I bring some of that mindset to my work, by being mindful, present and being of service.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?
A: The biggest challenge is connecting to people and potential clients. I lived in Colorado for seven years, so when I left almost four years ago, I left lots of connections and a very dynamic and tech-oriented city (Boulder). It has been hard to find community here or places to network that aren’t always formal gatherings.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?
A: We love the outdoors, so we spend as much time as we can kayaking in the Conodoguinet Creek in the spring, and in Pine Grove camping, biking and hiking with the kids. Having the Appalachian trails nearby and so many rivers and lakes has been fun.
