Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?
A: I’ve always had a deep, personal interest in metaphysical topics such as crystals, tarot and astrology, and that really inspired me to share my passion with others. I find fulfillment in providing resources and guidance to those seeking spiritual growth. I wanted to create a community space where like-minded individuals can gather, share knowledge and support each other in their spiritual practices.
I felt called to educate others about metaphysical practices and to help to demystify and legitimize these types of practices within the local community. I opened this store to be a creative outlet, allowing for the curation of unique products and the creation of a distinctive, welcoming environment.
Q: How did you get your start?
A: I’ve always wondered about different religions and belief systems. My older brother was big into melting different practices together to fit his spiritual journey. I slowly followed in his footsteps; doing my due diligence on becoming educated in what interested me, and because of that, I always found myself visiting whatever like-minded businesses I could find wherever I went. However, throughout my visits, I realized that a lot of the shops were just full of commercialized, mass produced products and they didn’t feel authentic.
They felt like a way to make a quick profit. I also found that a lot of the employees and owners themselves were not part of the metaphysical realm, and would often just regurgitate over-used rhetoric; and because of that, I stopped visiting stores altogether and slowly pushed my spiritual journey to the back burner for a few years. Fast forward to 2021-2022, a friend of mine took me to a new store in her town, and it just happened to be a metaphysical shop.
Upon leaving that shop, I realized that I would never find the store I needed for myself, and the only way I was going to find that was by opening my own store. So, with $1,000 in my pocket, I signed a lease for a tiny little shop, and here we are two years later. It’s become so much more than I could have ever imagined.
Q: What does your business sell or provide?
A: We provide all of the tools necessary for expressing your spiritual beliefs. We sell crystals, books, candles, oddities, herbal products and much more. Even if you’re not into religion or spiritual stuff, we have lots of things that are great for special occasions, birthdays, etc. We host products from over 20 different local artists/makers.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?
A: The biggest challenge we are facing right now is educating the public that we aren’t selling “witchcraft.” We are simply selling products to aid in whatever journey you want to take yourself on. We accept everyone regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, etc.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?
A: My favorite place in Cumberland County is Bedford Street Antiques. I could spend hours there just looking at all the different trinkets and goodies.
