Q: Why did you want to start this kind of business?
A: I’ve always needed a creative outlet — whether it was knitting, making jewelry, playing music or writing, I was always creating something. Candle-making started as just another hobby, something I did for fun, but somehow, it took on a life of its own. What began as a small passion project turned into something bigger than I ever imagined, and I’m so grateful for this path and the support that’s made it all possible.
Q: How did you get your start?
A: Anahata Candle Co. began as a simple pandemic hobby — just me, a kitchen table and a desire for a creative escape when the world felt uncertain. What started as an experiment in candle-making quickly turned into a passion, and before I knew it, I was selling at vendor events, stocking shelves in local boutiques and even growing a network of wholesale customers. It’s been an incredible journey — one I never could have predicted — but I’m so grateful for every step (and every candle) along the way.
Q: What does your business sell or provide?
A: At Anahata Candle Co., we craft small-batch, hand-poured soy candles and wax melts with intention and care. Our mission is simple: to create beautifully scented products using clean, natural ingredients while avoiding the harsh chemicals often found in mass-produced candles. With a focus on eco-friendly, low-waste practices, we’re committed to making candles that are better for you and the planet — because every flame should burn bright and clean.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now?
A: The candle market is incredibly oversaturated right now, and our biggest challenge is standing out and reaching the right customers — those who truly care about what they’re bringing into their homes. We’re passionate about creating clean-burning, nontoxic candles, but connecting with people who prioritize health and sustainability in their purchasing decisions is an ongoing challenge.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do or place in Cumberland County?
A: My favorite place in Cumberland County has to be Carlisle. I love this small town and the incredible sense of community among residents and business owners. What makes Carlisle so special is the unique mix of people from all over the world — whether they’re here for the Army War College, Dickinson College or CPYB, they bring so much culture and diversity to our little town. The Downtown Carlisle Association does an amazing job bringing the business community together and hosting fun events year-round, making this town feel even more connected. There’s always something to do, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.
